The 2022 FIA European Rallycross Championship season was a bit of a slow-burner for Damian Litwinowicz, but once he settled into his stride, the Pole more than lived up to the promise he had shown as a rookie 12 months earlier as he sped to second in the overall standings.

Litwinowicz advanced to the final in every outing on the Euro RX3 schedule, but it was not until round three that he reached the rostrum after flattering to deceive somewhat at both Nyirád and Höljes, with a disqualification from third place in Sweden for overtaking under double waved yellow flags.

From there on, however, the 24-year-old refocussed, regrouped – and responded. In Norway, Portugal and Germany, he was never off the podium – with the runner-up spoils at Montalegre deservedly earning him his first Cooper Tires ‘Racer of the Weekend’ accolade.

More than that, his results vaulted Litwinowicz above fellow Audi driver João Ribeiro and Škoda star Jan Černý in the scrap to be ‘best-of-the-rest’ in the points table behind runaway Euro RX3 champion Kobe Pauwels – priming him for a full-on title tilt should he decide to return in 2023...
