The FIA World Rallycross Championship joined in the global celebration of FIA Volunteers Weekend at the Nürburgring yesterday (13 November), paying tribute to the essential part played by these unsung heroes in the safe and successful running of motorsport events.

Ahead of the final day of the season, the paddock’s four 2022 champions – Johan Kristoffersson (World RX), Viktor Vranckx (RX2e), Anton Marklund (Euro RX1) and Kobe Pauwels (Euro RX3) – gathered on the start grid to show their appreciation for the sport’s volunteers and officials, posing for a ‘family photo’ with marshals, firefighters and medical and rescue crews, without whom the event would not have been able to take place.

“Volunteers and officials are the beating heart of motorsport,” said FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem. “Without their tireless efforts, we would simply not be able to go racing in a controlled and safe environment.

“It is important for the entire FIA family to recognise the vital contribution that these women and men make to our sport. Last weekend was a celebration, but also an opportunity to promote the positive benefits that volunteers gain from their involvement in an effort to attract newcomers to motorsport.”
