Kristoffersson throws hat into Euro RX1 ring for Höljes

The gauntlet has been thrown down. The gauntlet has been thrown down. Multiple FIA World Rallycross Champion Johan Kristoffersson will contest the second round of the 2022 FIA European Rallycross Championship on home soil at Höljes next month (2-3 July), as he aims to pick up from where he left off the last time he contested the series.

Just over seven months ago, Kristoffersson clinched his fourth Drivers’ World Championship crown behind the wheel of a KYB EKS JC-entered Audi S1, and he is targeting a fifth title this year back with the family-run Kristoffersson Motorsport squad.

While he awaits the dawn of World RX’s eagerly-anticipated new electric era at the Nürburgring at the end of July, the Swede will join the Euro RX1 fray at Höljes in his combustion-powered Volkswagen Polo GTi – now almost ten years old, but ever the loyal servant – in an ultra-high calibre, 25-strong field.

Prior to embarking upon his all-conquering World RX run, Kristoffersson made four Euro RX starts in 2013 and 2014, winning the last of those events in Italy – and he will return to battle with exactly the same goal in his sights.

“If you compete a lot, you will be good at competing. If you win a lot, you will be good at winning!” the 33-year-old asserted. “I have pushed our mechanics and suppliers hard in the pursuit of perfection, to get everything out of the equipment at our disposal, and the results so far have been really good. Expect the hunt for another victory to continue at Höljes!”

Kristoffersson will line up alongside Gustav Bergström under the Volkswagen Dealer Team BAUHAUS banner during the ‘Magic Weekend’ – his young countryman having made his Supercar debut at the iconic Värmland circuit just under a month ago. Team Owner Tommy Kristoffersson is excited to see the cars out on-track.

“We are working hard in every aspect and these are hectic but exciting times,” he explained. “You can prepare as much as you like at home in the workshop, but it is only when you enter a competitive environment that you really get a gauge for how everything is going. In parallel with our preparations for Höljes, the construction of the new cars for the World Championship is also underway. These are busy days in the KMS workshop.”

The full Euro RX1 and Euro RX3 entry lists for Cooper Tires World RX of Sweden will be published on Monday (13 June).
