SET Promotion – one of the most decorated teams in the history of the FIA European Rallycross Championship – will return to its roots for the forthcoming campaign as it fields rising young star Albert Kokk in the fledgling Euro RX4 division.

The 11-time European title-winning outfit – helmed by multiple Euro RX champion, Jussi Pinomäki – is synonymous with front-wheel-drive success in the dual-surface discipline, having created a solid stepping-stone for the careers of some of the biggest names in the sport including Andreas Bakkerud, Timur Timerzyanov, Reinis Nitišs and Teemu Suninen, most notably in the Super1600 class (now Euro RX3).

Following a hiatus from the FWD categories, in 2026, SET rejoins the fray with 14-year-old Estonian ace, Kokk. Crowned Junior Rallycross Champion in his homeland two years ago, the talented teenager contested the Baltic and Latvian-Lithuanian Championships last season, claiming event wins in Super1600 and finishing fourth in both series.

Euro RX4 has been introduced by the FIA in order to offer a lower-cost entry point to rallycross in machinery already designed for the rally pyramid. Powered by turbocharged 1.3-litre engines, the cars use sequential gearboxes and weigh just over 1,000kg, and require minimal modification from their Rally4 siblings.

Continuing SET’s long history with French brand, Renault – yielding Division 2 and Super1600 titles on the European scene – Kokk will head into battle behind the wheel of a Clio.

“This is the logical next step in my career, after spending the last two seasons learning about rallycross in Estonia and the Baltics,” he commented. “I’m very excited for this year, and to be driving for a team like SET Promotion will be very good for my development.

“The fact the championship starts so close to our home, in Latvia, is really exciting and we are going to some great tracks this year in Euro RX. I’m excited to race the Clio – I know the competition will be strong, but I’m going to try as hard as I can to beat the other drivers.”

Following the opening round of the campaign at Rīga’s historic Biķernieku trase on 9-10 May, competitors will lock horns at Nyirád in Hungary (30-31 May), Höljes in Sweden (4-5 July), Mondello Park in Ireland (18-19 July), Lohéac in France (29-30 August) and finally Lousada in Portugal, where champions will be crowned on 12-13 September. SET Co-Founder, Pinomäki, is similarly enthusiastic about what lies ahead.

“The addition of RX4 to the rallycross pyramid is something I have been speaking about for many years,” the Finn stated. “Affordable but still technically a real race car, this is where we need to be attracting young drivers and ideally this category would be added into national championships sooner rather than later.

“Considering our history at SET Promotion, RX4 is something we naturally wanted to be involved in from the very first opportunity, and when I think of our first driver – a 14-year-old kid from Estonia – the whole project just feels right.

“It will be interesting to see how RX4 grows during the season, but also how these young drivers begin to develop towards their dreams and targets of becoming the rallycross professionals of the future. We’re very much looking forward to working with Albert through 2026, and we’re delighted to be back where we feel so at home.”
