Champion Lubricants will continue to support the FIA World Rallycross Championship as Official Lubricant Partner in 2021, as the series heads into an intriguing new season.

Champion Lubricants first joined World RX last year as a key cornerstone of the brand’s long-term global strategy. Not only did its top-quality products play an essential role in keeping the show on the road throughout a Covid-affected campaign, but the ‘Champion Fast Start Award’ proved to be a popular addition to the spectacle.

This accolade highlighted the cars’ eye-watering acceleration – with the headlining 600bhp Supercars (now RX1) hitting 100km/h in under two seconds, faster than Formula 1 – by rewarding the quickest driver to reach the first corner, and it will return in 2021.

Thomas Tap, Senior Director Marketing & Sales, Rallycross Promoter GmbH, said:

“We are delighted to confirm the extension of World RX’s partnership with Champion Lubricants into a second season. We are well aware of the company’s passion for producing and supplying first-class products from previous experience, but have also been greatly impressed by Champion’s commitment to helping us to build a bright future for the World Championship as we embark upon our exciting new journey towards electrification and sustainability.

“In a discipline in which the difference between winning and losing frequently comes down to mere fractions of a second and drivers need to push their cars right to the limit, performance lubricants play a fundamental role in maximising performance – and in Champion Lubricants, we have a high-calibre partner absolutely at the top of its game.

“We share the same ethos and brand values, and believe – particularly with the advent of the ground-breaking new RX+ broadcast platform – that World RX offers Champion Lubricants the perfect platform to showcase its industry-leading expertise to a loyal, engaged and highly invested global audience.”

Yves Decat, Global Brand Manager at Champion Lubricants, added:

“Last year was our first as Official Lubricant Partner to the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and whilst the global pandemic clearly made it a challenging season for everybody in the sport, it is testament to the strength, resilience and commitment of our two brands that we not only conquered this challenge but indeed emerged from it even more united and ready to embrace the future together.

“There are a lot of mutual synergies between Champion Lubricants and World RX, and the Champion Fast Start Award injected an extra element of excitement into what was already one of motorsport’s most unpredictable and entertaining disciplines. We are delighted to confirm its return in 2021, as an even greater incentive to drivers to really put pedal-to-the-metal when the lights go out.

“We have been collaborating closely with Rallycross Promoter over the last few months, and we fully embrace and share their vision for the championship’s future. We believe World Rallycross is on the cusp of an exceptional new era, and we look forward with great anticipation to the season ahead.”

As part of the agreement, the Champion brand will benefit from prominent trackside exposure and a strong multimedia presence in industry publications and on social media channels.

The upcoming World RX campaign will get underway with a Friday/Saturday evening showdown at Spain’s Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend (23-24 July), before subsequent race weekends in Germany, Sweden, France, Latvia, Belgium and Portugal complete a nine-round schedule.
