Already two times a podium-finisher in the FIA RX2e Championship, Pablo Suárez has set his sights on the highest step of the rostrum in 2023, after signing up for his third full season of competition in the all-electric FIA World Rallycross Championship support series.
An established rally driver – and 2014 Canary Islands Group N (FWD) Tarmac Rally Champion – before turning his attentions to rallycross two years ago, Suárez joined the RX2e grid for its inaugural campaign, reaching the final on his debut on home soil in Catalunya.
He went on to cap an impressive rookie season in the single-spec category with third place in the last round at Germany’s Nürburgring, which secured him the same position in the championship standings.
Maintaining that progress, last year, the Spaniard advanced to the final four times out of five – adding another top three finish to his tally at Spa-Francorchamps, which earned him the coveted Cooper Tires ‘Racer of the Weekend’ award.
Now, Suárez is aiming to put into practice everything he has learned so far to continue honing his skills in the dual-surface discipline, in a high-calibre field where he will be up against fellow RX2e returnees Viktor Vranckx, Isak Sjökvist and Nils Andersson amongst others. The forthcoming five-round campaign will get underway in Hell, Norway on 17-18 June.
“The level of this year’s grid is so high, but that will only push me to keep overcoming the challenges and bettering myself as a driver,” enthused the 30-year-old Gran Canaria native, who will compete under the Zeroid Motorsport banner.
“I’ve enjoyed my first two years in rallycross so much – they’ve been an absolute blast – and I’m so excited to be racing another season. I’m always looking for improvements and constantly working on my preparation, and I feel more prepared than ever to fight for the top steps of the podium – so Norway, here we come!”
