Inaugural electric honours up for grabs in Nürburgring title-decider

The first-ever FIA electric rallycross champion will be crowned at the Nürburgring in a week-and-a-half’s time (27-28 November), as Guillaume De Ridder and Jesse Kallio go head-to-head for the honour of lifting the coveted FIA RX2e Championship trophy.

De Ridder has led the way since winning the Catalunya curtain-raiser in July, but Kallio has kept him on his toes throughout, hitting back at Höljes and waging a nip-and-tuck duel for supremacy with the Belgian at Spa-Francorchamps – a battle in which home hero De Ridder narrowly prevailed.

That means the Alpine F1 Team Power Unit Performance Engineer will carry a nine-point advantage into the German title-decider – with a fierce fight firmly in prospect.

De Ridder and Kallio will not have things all their own way, however, with a whole host of eager adversaries eyeing the top step of the podium themselves. Patrick O’Donovan and Pablo Suárez are currently tied for third spot in the standings, with Isak Sjökvist – two times a rostrum visitor already this season – only three points further in arrears in fifth.

Fast female Klara Andersson returns to the field following her starring debut in Belgium last month, and countryman Filip Thorén similarly rejoins the fray.

Two intriguing new additions, meanwhile, will be Euro RX3 championship runner-up Kobe Pauwels and highly-rated CrossCar graduate Pepe Arqué – whose planned Barcelona RX2e bow back in the summer was scuppered by a positive Covid test – setting the scene for an enthralling weekend of competition in the Eifel Mountains.

Racing is set to get underway at 10:30 CET on Saturday, 27 November. Entry tickets are still available to purchase here, or for those that can’t make it in person, all of the action across the board will be livestreamed in glorious HD quality via the cutting-edge RX+ broadcast platform.
