GCK Energy powers the inaugural FIA RX2e Championship as it sparks into life as the leading support category to the FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya this weekend (23-24 July).

2019 saw GCK Energy selected as exclusive supplier of charging power and infrastructure to drive the transition to electric racing in the FIA World Rallycross Championship and FIA RX2e Championship from 2021 to 2024.

Now, as the pioneering new RX2e series kicks off its debut season with five rounds at iconic motorsport venues including the Nürburgring, Lohéac and Spa-Francorchamps in 2021, GCK Energy delivers its bespoke mobile charging solution to get the ten identical cars up to racing speed.

In between races, the three GCK Energy containers each storing 300kWh and five mobile charging points offering a unit charging power of up to 50kW will recharge the batteries of the RX2e cars putting out 250kW (335bhp) of power and up to 510Nm torque as ten of the most talented rallycross stars go head-to-head in Barcelona. The containers will arrive at each race fully charged; having collected 900kWh back in France through a combination of solar panels and the local green energy network, guaranteeing green electricity to keep the RX2e pack racing over the weekend.

Arne Dirks, Executive Director, Rallycross Promoter GmbH, said:

“We are delighted to be partnering with GCK Energy to power the charging of the new FIA RX2e Championship this year. Since taking over as promoter of the World Championship, we have made no secret of our commitment to working towards a more sustainable future, and this is the first stage in that process. We look forward to a thrilling first season of RX2e action, as we focus on making rallycross not only the most exciting but also the most environmentally-friendly discipline in the sport.”

CEO of GCK Energy, Eric Boudot, added:

“It’s been a long time in the works and we’re so pleased to finally see this pioneering motorsport championship come to life. To power the FIA RX2e Championship using our entirely sustainable and autonomous charging solution will further solidify its important positioning as we enter this new era of a more holistic approach to greener motorsport solutions. It’s time to race, and we’re proud to be in the background powering the action.”
