Top 10 Drivers of the Year: Yury Belevskiy (4th)

Today, we come to the first champion in our Top 10 Drivers of the Year countdown across the FIA World Rallycross Championship, FIA RX2e Championship and FIA European Rallycross Championships – Euro RX3 title-winner Yury Belevskiy.

Yury Belevskiy was arguably the most dominant driver of the season on the FIA World Rallycross Championship package in 2021. Out of 150 potential points in the Euro RX3 battle, he tallied 147, meaning 2020’s highest scorer belatedly got to celebrate after no title was awarded last year due to the Covid-shortened campaign.

Belevskiy started very much as he meant to go on in the Catalunya curtain-raiser, coming out-of-the-blocks fastest to triumph and swiftly backing that up with another victory in Sweden. The Russian had to give best to precocious young Volland Racing team-mate Kobe Pauwels in France – the Belgian teenager a thorn in his side all year – but he was back on top form at Spa-Francorchamps and Montalegre, duly clinching the crown at the conclusion of the qualifying stages in Portugal.

Buoyed by that success, Belevskiy went on to make his World RX debut in the Nürburgring season finale. Taking to the highest level like the proverbial duck to water, second place to multiple world champion Johan Kristoffersson on the opening day proved that he is very much ready to take the next step in 2021...
