Damian Litwinowicz will make his FIA European Rallycross Championship debut in 2021, and as he joins the RX3 fray in an ex-Volland Racing Audi A1, the Pole is hoping to take the fight to his more experienced rivals.
Litwinowicz has been competing since the age of 15, beginning his career in the Kia Lotos Race Cup and subsequently the Clio Cup and clinching three domestic circuit racing titles. In 2017, he debuted in rallycross in the Polish Championship, placing third in the Fiat Seicento Cup before switching to a Honda Civic Type R (EP3).
In both 2019 and 2020, the 23-year-old Poznań native lifted the Polish SuperTouring (over 2,000cc) laurels, adding the CEZ Rallycross Championship SuperTouring (over 2,000cc) trophy to his cabinet in the second of those seasons. He will now step up to the international scene in Euro RX3, making his series bow in the Catalunya curtain-raiser on 23/24 July.
“I don’t have any expectations as such, because it’s impossible to say at this stage where I will be in the pecking order,” Litwinowicz reflected, “but of course I want to get into the final as often as possible.
“I’m not putting any undue pressure on myself because it will clearly be a learning year with a lot to take on-board. Many of the other drivers have much more experience of racing on gravel than I do, and all of the circuits will be new to me – I only know them from playing computer games so far!
“Saying that, I was at Höljes two years ago as a spectator, which was awesome – truly a magic weekend. I can’t wait to go back there and actually race – hopefully in front of a crowd.
“I haven’t tested the Audi yet, but it obviously has a very strong pedigree and has achieved excellent results in the past so it should be a quick car – I’ve just got to make sure the driver is up to scratch now, too...”
