Anton Marklund

 

Anton Marklund made his debut in the FIA European Rallycross Championship in the now defunct TouringCar class in 2011, going on to lift the laurels the following year courtesy of two triumphs and six further podium finishes.

In 2013, he stepped up to Supercar (now Euro RX1) level, before contesting three seasons in the World Championship from 2014 to 2016, reaching the rostrum in Canada and placing a career-high sixth in the standings in his maiden campaign.

The Swede returned to Euro RX in 2017 and duly clinched the coveted crown behind the wheel of his Marklund Motorsport Volkswagen Polo – winning three times from five starts and never taking the chequered flag lower than fourth in a commanding display. He finished second overall in 2018, adding another victory to his CV in Belgium, while the 2019 and 2020 seasons yielded a trio of podiums in World RX competition.

Marklund rejoined the fray for the 2021 Euro RX1 curtain-raiser with his 2017 title-winning car, now running under the Hedströms Motorsport banner. A spectacular roll at the end of Q4 – after setting the pace throughout the opening three qualifiers – brought a premature end to his challenge at Höljes, but he made three World Championship appearances later the same year, advancing to the final at Spa-Francorchamps in Hedströms’ Hyundai i20.

After dominating proceedings in Euro RX1 in 2022 – securing a third career European title with a round to spare – the Boliden native returned to World RX for the season finale at the Nürburgring, making his electric racing bow behind the wheel of ALL-INKL.COM Muennich Motorsport’s SEAT Ibiza RX1e.
