Following a decade-and-a-half in rallying – predominantly in his homeland and yielding a number of class wins and podium finishes – Zsolt Szíjj ‘Jolly’ made his FIA European Rallycross Championship debut behind the wheel of a Speedy Motorsport Super1600 (now Euro RX3) Suzuki Swift at Montalegre in 2016, going on to score his first points in the series in Barcelona five months later.
He switched to a Škoda Fabia for 2017, before reaching the final for the first time in Latvia the next season en route to 12th in the championship standings. The Hungarian replicated that overall finish as he progressed through to the semi-final stage on three occasions in 2019, prior to sitting out the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign.
‘Jolly’ rejoined the fray in an Audi A1 under the Volland Racing umbrella in 2021. After ascending the rostrum for the first time in his Euro RX career in the Catalunya curtain-raiser and only narrowly missing out on the final in France, he wound up a career-best eighth in the Drivers’ table.
