Marat Knyazev joined the FIA European Rallycross Championship off the back of a successful season in the inaugural RX Academy in 2017 that yielded a victory and fourth place in the overall classification. Contesting Euro RX’s Super1600 (now RX3) category in 2018 behind the wheel of a Renault Twingo, the Russian made his first semi-final appearance in Latvia before switching to a Škoda Fabia for 2019 – and taking a big step forward.
Reaching at least the semi-final stage in every event, he progressed through to the final in Germany and wound up eighth in the end-of-season standings. In 2020, he moved to Volland Racing, piloting the team’s Audi A1 to the podium in the last round of the campaign en route to fourth in the points table.
