With a proud family tradition in rallycross – as the son of Even Hvaal, cousin of Alexander and Joachim Hvaal and younger brother of Ada Marie Hvaal – it might have seemed obvious that Jens Hvaal would similarly end up pursuing a career in motorsport, but it was not always so...
As a child, the youngest member of the Hvaal rallycross dynasty much preferred football and fishing to racing. He only began competing at the age of 15, in the Norwegian Rallycross Championship’s ‘Junior’ category in 2020 in a Honda Civic.
After placing third in the standings the following season, the Norwegian improved to second in 2022 – dovetailing those challenges with some Crosskart races – prior to testing his mettle on the international stage for the first time in Euro RX3 at the Nürburgring.
Despite going into the weekend with minimal prior experience in his Škoda Fabia – borrowed from his cousins – Hvaal stunned observers by speeding to the runner-up spoils behind champion Kobe Pauwels, as he unquestionably marked himself out as a star of the future.
