Three times a European Autocross Champion, Tamás Kárai made his FIA European Rallycross Championship bow in 2015, immediately ascending the rostrum on his debut at Mettet behind the wheel of a Racing-Com KFT Škoda Fabia. Two further semi-final appearances resulted in 11th in the outright standings that season, which he improved upon to ninth in 2016, now driving an Audi A1 and progressing through to the final in Norway.
2017 would prove to be a difficult campaign, with his sole points-scoring finish a fifth place in the last round in Riga, before 2018 witnessed more of a return to form. In 2019, the Hungarian advanced to at least the semi-final stage in every event – highlighted by third position at Lohéac and fourth at Höljes – en route to sixth in the championship classification.
Switching to an Audi S1 in 2020, Kárai reached the semi-final in Sweden and the final in Latvia to secure seventh in the points table – a result he repeated in 2021, proceeding to the final three times out of four and adding another podium to his CV in France. In 2022, he placed a career-high fifth overall, fighting his way into the final in Belgium and only narrowly missing out in Norway, Latvia and Portugal.
In parallel with his Euro RX outings, the Orosháza native has entered sporadic World RX events since the championship’s inception in 2014, finishing inside the points for the first time in 2020 as he scored in each of the four rounds he contested in Finland and Spain. He was a semi-finalist in all three of his World RX starts in 2021.
