Kristoffersson Motorsport was founded in 1989 by successful rallycross racer Tommy Kristoffersson, with a core focus on the dual-surface discipline. Kristoffersson capped his own driving career with three Swedish Championship titles and third place in the European Championship in 1993, with official support from Audi.
In 1998, KMS diverted its focus to the Swedish Touring Car Championship. The team’s first stint in the series yielded Drivers’ Championship triumphs for Mattias Ekström, Roberto Colciago – twice – Fredrik Ekblom and Thed Björk.
In 2009, the Scandinavian outfit switched to Volkswagen machinery, running the E.ON-funded Team Biogas, which resulted in a maiden crown for Johan Kristoffersson in 2012 behind the wheel of a VW Scirocco.
Kristoffersson Motorsport subsequently rejoined the rallycross fray under the Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS banner, fielding a pair of VW Polo Supercars in selected events during the inaugural campaign of World RX. Kristoffersson Jnr claimed his breakthrough victory in the 2015 curtain-raiser in Portugal to third in the overall standings, which the Swede improved upon to place second the following year.
In 2017, the Arvika-based operation returned to the rebaptised Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, lifting the Teams’ laurels that season and securing Drivers’ glory in 2018.
A comeback to World RX beckoned in 2020, propelling Kristoffersson to his third World Championship crown. Two years later, KMS embarked upon its biggest commitment to-date – building three brand new Volkswagen RX1e cars for the start of the series’ electric era. A dominant campaign under the Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS banner culminated in both the Drivers’ and Teams’ trophies.
The squad has additionally achieved success in rallying – most notably WRC2 – with Ole Christian Veiby and Kristoffersson.
