Always at home in inclement weather, on a sodden track surface in heat
one, Kristoffersson piloted his sustainably-fuelled Volkswagen Polo KMS 601 RX
to victory by the margin of more than ten seconds – an eternity in rallycross
terms.
The KMS - HORSE Powertrain star – chasing an extraordinary seventh
career crown at the pinnacle of the sport this season – overcame a slow start
to double up in heat two, earning him maximum championship points and meaning
he will begin the first semi-final at 14:00 CEST from pole position.
Last year’s championship runner-up Kevin Hansen (Hansen World RX Team) and
FIA World Rallycross Championship debutant Sondre Evjen (Kristoffersson Motorsport)
were the other two winners from the heats in their electric cars, as honours
once again proved to be even in World RX’s new ‘Battle of Technologies’.
Niclas Grönholm – the quickest driver in Saturday’s heats – sits second
in the intermediate standings for CE Dealer Team ahead of the impressive Evjen
and Kevin Hansen.
Defending champion Nils Andersson is Top Qualifier in RX2e, with last year’s
‘Magic Weekend’ winner Patrick O’Donovan maintaining his advantage in Euro RX1
and João Ribeiro narrowly pipping fellow Audi driver Nils Volland to prime
position in Euro RX3.
