Kristoffersson Motorsport confirms four-car line-up for Höljes

Reigning FIA World Rallycross Championship Teams’ title-holder Kristoffersson Motorsport has finalised its driver line-up for the forthcoming season curtain-raiser at Höljes in Sweden next weekend (6-7 July), with Gustav Bergström and Sondre Evjen set to take to the track in the Volkswagen RX1e.

Earlier this month, KMS announced that six-time world champion Johan Kristoffersson and Ole Christian Veiby would be switching to sustainably-fuelled combustion power for 2024, in the shape of the newly-built VW Polo KMS 601 RX, running under the KMS - HORSE Powertrain banner. That left some free seats in the squad’s stable of all-conquering electric cars – two of which have now been filled by a pair of the sport’s brightest rising stars.

Bergström made his World RX debut in 2022, impressing by racing to three consecutive podium finishes as a rookie en route to sixth in the overall standings. The young Swede has not competed at the highest level since Höljes last year, and has spent the current campaign to-date contesting the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and International GT Open series – twice reaching the rostrum in the latter.

Now, Bergström is preparing to return to a track featuring gravel elements for the first time in 12 months, but he is hoping to hit the ground running when he climbs back into the cockpit of KMS’ electrifying beast in just a few days’ time.

“Höljes is kind of my home circuit, and one of the best out there,” the 21-year-old enthused. “I’m particularly looking forward to competing against Ole Christian and Johan again. I haven’t seen the new petrol cars in action yet, but Johan is usually fast no matter what he gets into, so I wouldn’t be surprised if he is on top of the podium. For me, I’m not going there for anything other than to make it to the final!”

For Evjen, the ‘Magic Weekend’ will mark a long-awaited première, having initially been slated to drive for KMS at Lydden Hill last summer. The highly-rated Norwegian has been a regular in the World RX paddock since 2016, and has established himself as an event-winner in both RX Lites and Euro RX1.

Evjen previously competed for KMS in 2019 and 2020, placing third in the title table in the FIA European Rallycross Championship’s top-tier in the second of those seasons. His most recent rallycross appearance dates back to last August, and he is excited to get the chance now to gauge himself against the discipline’s elite.

“It will be like starting over for me, but it will be interesting,” acknowledged the 26-year-old, who will be making his electric racing bow. “Höljes is the circuit where I think pretty much every rallycross driver wants to compete, and of course I’m a little nervous now everything is real. It’s a new car for me and a difficult track, but I will work hard to settle in during the pre-event test.

“The electric cars were really fast last year, so hopefully we will have some fair and tough racing in the fight against the internal combustion engines.”

“My goal has always been that we should get to the start with four cars at Höljes, and now we are there,” added Tommy Kristoffersson, Team Principal of the successful Arvika-based outfit. “That is a great achievement, and we are incredibly proud to be able to offer this to the fans – I really hope we will see a large crowd on-site to cheer the drivers on.

“I have said all along that Gustav’s greatest ability is in rallycross. Now he has taken great strides in circuit racing as well, and it will be exciting to see how he can apply that next weekend. Sondre is a driver who has grown since he first came to us. After missing out last year, we felt that as soon as there was another opportunity, it was only right that it should be his. In the long-term, he definitely has the potential to become an important member of this team.”
