Third-generation racer Bénézet eager to uphold family name

Andrea Bénézet is looking forward to making his FIA European Rallycross Championship bow on home soil at Essay’s Circuit des Ducs next month (8-9 June), as the Frenchman aims to uphold family honour in the opening round of the series’ 2024 campaign.

Bénézet’s career might just be beginning – he finished third overall in the French Junior Rallycross Championship last year, with a trio of victories to his credit – but the 22-year-old is anything but new to the dual-surface discipline.

His father, Eddy Bénézet, was crowned European champion in the Division Two category in 2000 in a two-litre, front-wheel drive Group N Peugeot 306 S16, while his grandfather is Jean-Jacques Bénézet, a leading French racer of the 1980s and now president of the Association Française des Organisateurs Rallycross (AFOR), which runs the French Championship.

There is plenty of experience and expertise in the garage, too, with Bénézet’s Euro RX3 Renault Clio set to be prepared and fielded by Eleven Motorsport, helmed by former French champion and Euro RX competitor, Antoine Massé.

“Following a successful learning season in the French Junior Championship, I’m really excited by the prospect of racing in such a competitive and high-profile series as Euro RX,” enthused Bénézet.

“Eleven Motorsport is renowned for helping to develop young drivers in the sport, and my family obviously has a special relationship with the discipline, both in France and more widely in Europe – so hopefully I can do them proud on my European Championship debut.”
