Lambec: We couldn’t miss this!

Father-and-son Pascal and Jérémy Lambec will participate in the FIA European Rallycross Championship on home soil at Essay in five-and-a-half weeks’ time, acknowledging that the series’ 2024 curtain-raiser is ‘something [they] couldn’t miss’.

Euro RX last visited Normandy’s Circuit des Ducs in 2011, and ever since Essay’s return to the calendar was confirmed just over two months ago, excitement and anticipation have been mounting.

A sizeable French contingent is expected to take part, with front-runners Fabien Pailler (Euro RX1) and Dylan Dufas (Euro RX3) already confirmed. To those names can now be added the Lambecs.

Having started out by supporting a couple of up-and-coming rallycross stars, Pascal Lambec later began competing himself, going on to make his international debut in 2019 and most recently appearing in Euro RX1 at Höljes’ ‘Magic Weekend’ last summer.

His son, Jérémy, similarly earned his spurs in autocross before stepping up to rallycross in 2018 on the domestic scene. The 35-year-old has rapidly climbed the ladder, finishing second on his Super1600 (RX3) bow and placing third overall in the French Championship at the end of his maiden full campaign in the dual-surface discipline in 2021, tallying four podium finishes along the way and missing the final just once in eight attempts.

The Vitré native replicated that championship finish the following year – tied on points with David Bouet, who shone last season in Euro RX3 – and has contested eight rounds of the European Championship to-date, advancing to the semi-final stage on three occasions.

Like his father, Lambec Jnr – who last joined the Euro RX3 field just under three years ago – is a big fan of the series...

“We both caught the European Championship bug in 2017, when we took care of the logistics for Jimmy Terpereau and Maximilien Eveno,” he explains. “That allowed us to really get a feel for Euro RX. I subsequently entered several events myself, and looking back now, I see that played a big part in helping me to progress much more quickly.

“It goes without saying that the return of the European Championship to France is something we couldn’t miss. Racing in Euro RX is always such a rewarding and enriching experience, and in addition to the high calibre of competition in the series, the organisation is invariably first-rate.

“In logistical terms, the date is excellent since it allows us sufficient time to prepare in-between two rounds of the French Championship. All of the stars aligned perfectly to ensure that we simply couldn’t pass up this opportunity.

“Essay isn’t the circuit that I know the best, but I’m excited to measure myself against the crème de la crème at Euro RX3 level. Due to business commitments, it will unfortunately be my only Euro RX appearance this year, so I fully intend to enjoy every single moment.”
