The FIA World Rallycross Championship is pleased to present its 2024 calendar, with the exhilarating dual-surface action set to bring fans to their feet as the eagerly-anticipated new ‘Battle of Technologies’ races into life.
For the first time in World RX history, the cutting-edge electric RX1e cars – introduced two years ago – will go doorhandle-to-doorhandle with their sustainably-fuelled RX1 combustion counterparts as they rejoin the fray. This will add another fascinating dimension and an intriguing twist to what is already one of the most thrilling forms of motorsport on the planet.
Ratified
by today’s FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, the 2024 schedule features five
double-header fixtures totalling ten rounds, preceded by a standalone FIA
European Rallycross Championship curtain-raiser on 8-9 June at Essay in
northern France – a circuit that last hosted Euro RX more than a decade ago.
The
World Championship then kicks off at Höljes’ legendary ‘Magic Weekend’ in
Sweden (6-7 July) – selected as the best event of 2023 at the recent FIA
Off-Road Prize-Giving ceremony.
Three
weeks later, competitors will head to Hungary, as Nyirád’s famous ‘Red
Cauldron’ – which has welcomed Euro RX for the past two seasons – steps up to
World Championship level for the first time on 27-28 July.
Two
popular World RX venues follow, in the shape of Mettet in Belgium (17-18
August) and Montalegre in Portugal (7-8 September), before the series travels
overseas. Discussions are ongoing to add an event in Asia to the calendar in
the autumn, ahead of a new season finale in Australia on 30 November – 1 December.
This
will mark the first time the championship has set foot ‘Down Under’, as World
RX continues to explore new territories following its spectacular city-centre
debut in Hong Kong last November.
Arne
Dirks, Managing Director, Rallycross Promoter GmbH, said:
“We’re
excited to officially present the 2024 FIA World Rallycross Championship
calendar. A huge amount of hard work has gone into putting this schedule
together, and we must thank all of our stakeholders for their earnest efforts
and support.
“With
a mixture of traditional rallycross favourites such as Höljes, Montalegre and
Mettet, a very well-deserved promotion for Nyirád following two excellent
European Championship events, a maiden visit to Australia and a return to
France, we have a truly global and compelling calendar sure to whet the
appetite of competitors and fans alike – and one befitting of such a landmark
season as the ‘Battle of Technologies’ gets underway in style.
“We
are looking forward to seeing the RX1e cars back in action for the first time
since last summer, and curious to discover how they compare against the
sustainably-fuelled combustion cars on the grid. As we all know in rallycross,
there will be absolutely no quarter given.
“Looking
further ahead, we are already in the advanced stages of finalising next year’s
plans, with even more interest from major new markets, so we look forward to
confirming and presenting the 2025 World RX dates in due course.”
