Hallman working on budget for full RX2e campaign

Having gone unbeaten in his brace of appearances in the FIA RX2e Championship last year, Tommi Hallman says he is trying to put together the budget to launch a full-season assault on the electric FIA World Rallycross Championship support series in 2024.

Even prior to his star turns on the World RX undercard, Hallman – who you recently voted as your RX2e ‘Driver of the Year’ – had already carved out an impressive reputation for himself in the sport, with an eye-catching run of victories and podium finishes in international competition.

On his RX2e debut with SET Promotion at Lydden Hill last summer, the highly-rated Finn left title protagonists Nils Andersson, Isak Sjökvist and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky as well as reigning champion Viktor Vranckx eating his dust, winning three of the four heats, his semi-final and the all-important final.

Four weeks later at Germany’s Estering, Hallman repeated the feat, only this time, his rivals also included CE Dealer Team by Volvo Construction Equipment world championship duo Niclas Grönholm and Klara Andersson.

In a fiercely-competitive single-spec series in which talent invariably comes to the fore, it was a potent advertisement for just what the 23-year-old Kuopio native is capable of. Now, he is eager to see what he can accomplish over the course of a full season in the championship...

“It’s pretty incredible to think what I’ve achieved since 2021,” Hallman acknowledged. “You never get bored of winning. There is no better feeling than crossing the finish line first in the last race of the weekend, but these victories do not come easy – rallycross weekends are long, and you have to be completely ‘on it’ in all six sessions from heat one through to the final.

“My recent results have certainly been a good confidence boost and give me the motivation to keep pushing. Now, no matter what championship I enter in the future, I know I have the ability to win races.

“It’s obviously difficult to put together the kind of budget necessary to compete full-time on the international stage, but with the way things have been going, it would be such a shame if I cannot continue and I really hope my performances will help to raise my profile.

“I don’t yet have a clear plan for 2024, but I’m open to all opportunities and after my two victories in RX2e last year, it would be logical to return to the championship. Let’s hope I can raise the funding for a full season in the series.”
