World RX Season Review: Ole Christian Veiby

Ole Christian Veiby went into 2023 targeting his first World RX win. He ultimately fell short, but nonetheless played a key role in Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS’ acquisition of the Teams’ crown.

Ole Christian Veiby went into the 2023 FIA World Rallycross Championship campaign targeting his first win and a top two finish in the Drivers’ standings. Ultimately, he fell somewhat short of his personal objectives, but he nonetheless played a key role in Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS’ successful acquisition of the Teams’ crown.

In the first three SuperPole sessions of the year, Veiby was his team-mate Johan Kristoffersson’s closest competitor. Indeed, in both Norway and Sweden, he came within a whisker of toppling the multiple world champion from his SuperPole throne, but issues and incidents in the races meant he reached the rostrum just once from those early rounds.

In South Africa, the Norwegian lined up on the front row of the grid for Saturday’s final, only to fail to finish following a collision with Timmy Hansen – not the pair’s first clash of the year. Twenty-four hours later, he was forced out at the semi-final stage by broken suspension after clipping a tyre stack, but he bounced back in Hong Kong to equal his career-best result with second place to Kristoffersson on the last day of the season.
