Two thrilling moments shortlisted for FIA ‘Action of the Year’ accolade

Two of the most exciting moments of the 2023 international rallycross campaign have been shortlisted in the FIA’s annual ‘Action of the Year’ competition.

There has been no shortage of door-to-door duels, audacious overtakes and spectacular saves during the FIA World Rallycross Championship and FIA European Rallycross Championship this season.

The World RX clip rewinds the clock to the very first race of the campaign at Montalegre in Portugal back in June – and the revival of the famous Loeb-Grönholm rivalry. The pair were evenly-matched from the outset around the challenging Barroso circuit, and their battle was only ultimately decided by a dramatic last lap joker merge.

In Euro RX1, meanwhile, Patrick O’Donovan – contesting his first full season at the pinnacle of European competition – wasted no time at all in taking the fight to the series’ established front-runners, as the talented British teenager proved to be no respecter of reputations.

He might have lined up in the unfavourable middle grid slot in heat two in Hell, in a race featuring experienced protagonists Anton Marklund, Jānis Baumanis, Enzo Ide and Tamás Kárai, but he cared little. He was going to send it regardless...

Grönholm, Loeb and O’Donovan’s heroics are up against some fierce opposition from championships including Formula 1, WRC, WEC, Formula E and ERC, so we need your support!

To re-watch both clips and cast your vote (for us, hopefully 😉), head over to the FIA Instagram page and comment on one of the ‘Action of the Year’ posts.

Voting closes at midnight on Sunday, 3 December, with the top three clips set to be revealed during the FIA’s end-of-season prize-giving gala in Baku, Azerbaijan on Friday, 8 December.
