For the first time in the SuperPole session’s 14-round existence, Johan Kristoffersson found himself pipped to the fastest time in the single-lap shootout in Cape Town today (7 October), as Kevin Hansen seized the early initiative at World RX of South Africa.

Hansen had already shown his potential in the ZEROID X1 car by coming out of the blocks quickest at Mettet in Belgium two months ago before Kristoffersson turned the tables. This time – after outpacing his countryman by the slender margin of eight hundredths-of-a-second – the Hansen World RX Team star is determined to stay in charge.

“What a great feeling!” the 25-year-old enthused. “I’ve got a lot of experience in this kind of car – I really enjoy driving the ZEROID X1 and it’s very close to my heart – and it’s great to show our speed in SuperPole like this. I’m super-pumped!”

Behind championship leader Kristoffersson, Niclas Grönholm – the most recent World RX winner in Cape Town, and currently second in the title table – wound up third for CE Dealer Team by Volvo Construction Equipment.

Timmy Hansen – who clinched the world championship crown at Killarney International Raceway in 2019 – placed fourth, less than a third-of-a-second adrift of his brother’s benchmark after getting out of shape in the final sector.

Ole Christian Veiby (Volkswagen Dealerteam BAUHAUS) pipped ALL-INKL.COM Münnich Motorsport’s Timo Scheider to fifth, with Klara Andersson (CE Dealer Team) and René Münnich rounding out the order.
