Hallman outpaces title-chasing trio in Qualifying Practice

Tommi Hallman set the pace in RX2e Qualifying Practice at the Estering today, as the three title contenders proved to be evenly-matched in a close and competitive session.

Tommi Hallman set the pace in Qualifying Practice in the FIA RX2e Championship at Germany’s Estering today (19 August), as the three title contenders proved to be evenly-matched in a close and competitive session.

Hallman – who won on his RX2e bow at Lydden Hill in the UK last month – topped the timesheets by a slender 0.059s in his SET Promotion car, to earn the prime starting spot for heat one this afternoon.

He was chased by title-contending trio Isak Sjökvist, Nils Andersson and Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, who were blanketed by a mere 0.140s in second, third and fourth positions respectively. After a difficult free practice, #YellowSquad star Sjökvist bounced back to outpace his two Team E rivals and steal an early edge in the championship showdown.

FIA World Rallycross Championship podium-finisher Klara Andersson wound up fifth on her return to the category in which she made her international rallycross debut two years ago, narrowly ahead of Höljes winner Ole Henry Steinsholt in sixth. Andersson’s CE Dealer Team stablemate Niclas Grönholm was restricted to eighth place after finding his efforts frustrated by traffic.

Racing will get underway at 13:15 CET, beginning with Euro RX3.
