Best in Britain: Cooper Tires’ ‘Racer of the Weekend’ from Lydden Hill

The FIA RX2e Championship stars put on a crowd-pleasing show for fans at Lydden Hill last weekend (22-23 July), with one driver in particular standing out as the cream of the crop on British soil to clinch the coveted Cooper Tires ‘Racer of the Weekend’ award...

Tommi Hallman’s calibre was well-known before he made his FIA RX2e Championship bow in Britain, but still, even the best take time to adapt to new situations and surroundings, and a shortened free practice session left the Finn somewhat on the back foot heading into the remainder of the race weekend.

He did not let it show. Fastest in qualifying practice, he then left his rivals trailing to the tune of almost two seconds in heat one and was even further ahead in heat two. Only Nils Andersson denied the Finn a clean sweep in the heats, but having been defeated once, Hallman was not keen to be bettered again – and in both the semi-final and all-important final, the SET Promotion star offered defending champion Viktor Vranckx no opportunity to attack.

As debuts go, the 22-year-old could scarcely have asked for very much more, and he will be rewarded with a free set of Cooper Tires when he returns to action in the RX2e season finale at Germany’s Estering next month (19-20 August).
