There is good news today (3 March) for rallycross fans, who now have less time to wait to see the sport’s finest drivers in action with a calendar reshuffle bringing forward the start of the 2023 season by three weeks.
The changes to the schedule have been necessitated by the unstable nature of the global logistics market and the extended shipping times required to accommodate the events outside of Europe. The revised dates were approved during the latest meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council.
The European season-opener at Nyirád in Hungary – a popular returnee to the schedule last year – will take place three weeks sooner than planned, on 29-30 April. The World Championship will then get underway two weeks ahead of its own original date, as World RX of Portugal kick-starts the action on 3-4 June.
The Circuito Internactional de Montalegre staged the very first World RX event back in 2014, and will also raise the curtain on the series’ tenth campaign in the same year that the track celebrates its quarter-century.

Fans to get first taste of 2023 action next month

On the subject of anniversaries, the championship will mark its 100th round in Hell, Norway a fortnight later (17-18 June), with the ‘Magic Weekend’ at Höljes in Sweden (1-2 July), Lydden Hill in the UK (22-23 July) and Mettet in Belgium (5-6 August) all similarly unchanged.
The final European event of the campaign at Germany’s Estering moves forward by three weeks to 19-20 August, followed by the end-of-season long-haul jaunts to Cape Town in South Africa and a soon-to-be-announced venue in Asia, both two weeks earlier than initially projected on 7-8 October and 11-12 November respectively.
