Kiss planning Nyirád return as passion for rallycross still burns bright

László Kiss’ love affair with rallycross shows no signs of fizzling out as the 2023 campaign races ever-nearer into view – with the Hungarian planning another appearance in the European Championship at Nyirád.

Born into a motorsport family, Kiss began his career in rallycross before spending 12 years in rallying. He rekindled his relationship with the dual-surface discipline two years ago, going on to join the Euro RX1 field for the 2022 curtain-raiser on home soil and impressing with his turn-of-speed on his return to international competition.

Although his priorities have changed over the years – with family and work commitments now at the forefront for the 34-year-old – Kiss’ passion for racing still burns bright, and the European event at Nyirád is firmly on the agenda for his part-time programme this season, when he will be targeting a good result…with plenty of fun along the way.

“I have reached a point in my life where racing is no longer the most important thing, but I still feel the dedication and the fire in me,” enthused the former Hungarian Rallycross Champion. “Rallycross has always been close to my heart and I’m glad that I have the opportunity to be a part of it from time-to-time.

“It was a great experience to take part in the Hungarian round of Euro RX1 last year, and my main goal for 2023 is to be there again. For me, competing at Nyirád is always enjoyable. It’s a very challenging track with a special atmosphere.

“I’m no longer racing under pressure, which is a really liberating feeling – but regardless of the situation, my goal is always the best possible outcome. I still have the mentality of a competitor and I’ve already started preparing for the challenges of the upcoming season in the gym.

“I believe my team and I have found what we need to improve in order to be even more competitive in the European Championship this year, and I would be really happy if I manage to get to the semi-finals again.”
