Euro RX1 giant-killer confirms 2023 return

Ulrik Linnemann – who took the fight to the big names of the FIA European Rallycross Championship behind the wheel of his family-run Ford Fiesta, ‘Wendy’, last year – has confirmed his return to the fray in 2023 for at least three rounds.

The popular Dane – 11 times a winner at Super1600 (now Euro RX3) level – rejoined the Euro RX1 grid last season following a four-year absence and immediately blew away the cobwebs with a hard-earned podium finish in the Nyirád curtain-raiser in Hungary, having languished down in 18th position in the standings at the end of the opening day.

Linnemann returned to the rostrum at Montalegre in Portugal later in the campaign, courtesy of a dogged defence against champion-elect Anton Marklund. Having extracted more torque from Wendy’s engine over the winter – rectifying an Achilles’ heel that hampered him in 2022 – he is hoping to feature more consistently up at the sharp end this year.

“I enjoyed being back in Euro RX1 last season and the plan is to be on the grid in Hungary, Sweden and Germany for sure,” the 34-year-old affirmed, as he launched his Linnemann Promotion team’s 2023 programme.

“I’m still working on some more, but I want to be sure that I can be competitive at the top level, so I will need a bigger budget to drive the full championship again.”
