Sanz hails ‘remarkable improvement’

Known as the ‘Queen of the Desert’, Laia Sanz is used to competing in far-flung places, with multiple Dakar Rally appearances to her name in South America and Saudi Arabia – but this weekend (29-30 November), she is happy to be racing somewhat closer to home, in the 2022 FIA RX2e Championship season finale at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.

Sanz has contested three RX2e rounds to-date, with a best finish of seventh place in this year’s Höljes curtain-raiser in Sweden. Far more accustomed to two wheels than four, the 14-time FIM Women’s Trial World Champion is continuing to make progress every time she takes to the track – and now she is looking forward to making good use of the experience she has gained as she returns to the scene of her rallycross debut seven years ago.

“It has been a lot of fun to race in RX2e this season,” the Barcelona native enthused. “It has helped me a lot and throughout the year, I have seen a remarkable improvement. I now feel much more comfortable in close fights with other drivers, and I’ve also made progress with my ability to react to the lights and overtake in the first – often crucial – moments of the race.

“I usually compete far away from home, so I’m really looking forward to racing at home, with my family and surrounded by my people and my fans. There are some big names in the RX2e line-up in Barcelona – and with a level playing field in the championship, I have no doubt there will be lots of frenetic action on-track.”

The whole weekend will be broadcast live on RX+, providing access to every race live or on-demand on any device with premium production, hundreds of hours of fast-paced content and exclusive behind-the-scenes insights, plus interviews, in-depth expert analysis, drone shots, on-board cameras, highlights and much more.

RX+ event passes are available for €7,99, with the full season pass now on sale for the discounted rate of €29,99. More information can be found here.
