Second season in Euro RX1 would be ‘perfect scenario’ for Volland
)
Nils Volland has reiterated his desire to retain his spot on the Euro RX1 grid in 2026, forecasting ‘a really fun season’ ahead as he bids to continue his career development in the FIA European Rallycross Championship’s top-tier.
The 2024 Euro RX3 champion stepped up to the highest level this year with Volland Racing, taking to the track in an Audi S1 previously raced by Enzo Ide. Despite his confidence being dealt an early blow by an event-ending crash in Q4 in the Lousada curtain-raiser – having hitherto sat a superb second in the standings on his maiden outing in the fiercely-contested category – Volland went on to reach the final in both Hungary and Türkiye, peaking with a fourth-place finish at Nyirád.
That earned the young German the same position in the end-of-season classification – highest-placed rookie and ‘best-of-the-rest’ behind the three title protagonists – and he subsequently turned heads as one of only two Euro RX1 entrants to advance to the final on his World Championship debut in Istanbul.
Buoyed by that encouraging display and the experience he gained over the course of the campaign, Volland has since shifted his focus to the future, when he predicts capacity grids could be the order of the day in the new-look European Championship.

“We haven’t properly discussed next season yet, but my aim is to return to Euro RX with the Audi S1,” acknowledged the 25-year-old Roth native. “That would be the perfect scenario for me. I enjoyed racing in the category so much this past year and definitely want to continue the adventure.
“On paper, I think it could be a really fun season. Of course, it’s not great to see the World Championship having to take a break, but on the other hand, it could lead to a very popular and competitive European Championship. I’m looking forward to seeing how everything shakes out, and I really hope to be a part of it again in 2026.”
The 2026 FIA European Rallycross Championship will get underway at Rīga’s Biķernieku trase in Latvia on 9-10 May, followed by rounds at Nyirád in Hungary (30-31 May), Höljes in Sweden (4-5 July), Mondello Park in Ireland (18-19 July), Lohéac in France (29-30 August) and Lousada in Portugal (12-13 September).
