Hot on the heels of countryman Martin Enlund, Casper Jansson has become the second swift Swede to sign up to a full season in the FIA European Rallycross Championship’s top tier in 2026, behind the wheel of an ex-Hansen Motorsport Peugeot 208 run by Hedströms Motorsport.

Jansson arrives on the Euro RX1 scene with a strong prior pedigree in the dual-surface discipline, counting three titles to his name in Nitrocross’ ‘NEXT’ support category and boasting a similarly stellar record in his Scandinavian homeland.

Having been competing in the sport for five years, the forthcoming campaign will mark the first time the 20-year-old Uppsala-born ace tests his mettle at the very highest level. He is eager to see how he shapes up against Europe’s best...

I’m really excited!” Jansson enthused. “I think it’s a good moment to step up because with the World Championship on-hold until 2028, Euro RX1 is currently the biggest series you can win in rallycross – that definitely inspired me when looking at potential programmes for this year.

“There will be a lot of good drivers in the field, so it’s clearly going to be challenging and I have a lot to learn. It will be hard to fight for the podium as a rookie, but of course we’re going to try – I wouldn’t be on the starting grid if I didn’t think it was possible to cross the finish line first!

“The Peugeot feels amazing and is a competitive car that I think will suit the European circuits well. I’ve already raced at Rīga, Höljes and Lohéac, and I’m really looking forward to discovering the other three tracks on the calendar, too.

“My goal is naturally to be in the championship fight, while also getting my name out there to more people around the world. You know, I’ve always followed Euro RX and now we’re going to actually be there and maybe some kids will look up to me like I looked up to my heroes when I was younger, which would be cool. It’s going to be fun!”

“I thought for a long time about competing in the first three rounds myself,” added Hedströms Motorsport Team Principal, Peter Hedström, seven times a rostrum-finisher at the pinnacle of European Rallycross. “It was very close to us deciding, but when Casper got in touch and wanted to drive the whole series, I didn’t even have to think about it – I just said, ‘let’s go!’

“I need to focus more on our family business – my dad and I have been working hard to build it up again – so right now, I don’t have the time to race properly, but Casper is a talented young driver and the Peugeot is one of the fastest cars, so I’m sure we will be up there fighting at the top!”

Following the curtain-raising contest at the historic Biķernieku trase in the Latvian capital of Rīga on 9-10 May, Euro RX competitors will subsequently lock horns at Nyirád in Hungary (30-31 May), Höljes in Sweden (4-5 July), Mondello Park in Ireland (18-19 July), Lohéac in France (29-30 August) and finally Lousada in Portugal, where champions will be crowned on 12-13 September.
