New qualifying format and wildcard entries confirmed for season finale at World RX of Türkiye
)
The FIA World Rallycross Championship will bring its 2025 season to a dramatic close in Türkiye, as Istanbul Park prepares to host a double-header finale with a packed programme of racing and significant format changes designed to raise the intensity of competition across the weekend.
The action begins on Saturday with the introduction of a combined qualifying format, marking the first time this season that World RX and Euro RX1 competitors will share the same grids. Instead of each category contesting separate heats, drivers from both Championships will line up side-by-side in shared races, increasing the incredible door to door action rallycross is famous for.
Although the heats will be combined, results will continue to be calculated separately within each category, meaning World RX and Euro RX1 drivers will still battle for points within their own championships. Once qualifying concludes, the series will divide once again, with semi-finals and finals held separately to determine the winners of each class on day one. And once the dust has settled on those finals, the new Euro RX1 Champion will be crowned, bringing the Championship to a dramatic conclusion in Istanbul.
With Saturday’s racing complete and European champions crowned, attention will turn quickly to Sunday’s finale, where the FIA has confirmed a second major change to the format. For the final day of the season, Euro RX1 drivers will have the chance to step up to the World RX category as wildcard entries. These drivers will compete directly against the established World Championship field, adding depth and unpredictability to the grid. Importantly, while wildcards will not score championship points, they will be fully eligible to race for the win and stand on the podium, meaning a Euro RX1 driver could claim outright victory in Türkiye even if they do not influence the title fight.
This development is expected to deliver the largest and most competitive grid of the season, combining the best drivers from the World and European levels into a single field. For the Euro RX1 entrants, it represents a rare opportunity to showcase their pace against the topflight drivers of the sport, while for World RX regulars it presents an additional challenge at a decisive moment in the championship battle.
Fans in Türkiye are set for an unforgettable weekend of motor sport. Against the backdrop of the Bosphorus, Istanbul Park’s demanding mix of gravel and tarmac will stage two full days of top-level rallycross. With both the FIA World Rallycross and FIA European Rallycross titles on the line, the 2025 World RX of Türkiye is primed to deliver a season finale for the ages.
