Kristoffersson Motorsport – the most successful team in FIA World Rallycross Championship history – is keeping a keen eye on the future direction of the sport as it evaluates its next move, Tommy Kristoffersson has revealed.
Under various different guises, KMS has won six of the latest nine World RX Teams’ titles, all with Volkswagen machinery. Last year, multiple Drivers’ World Champion Johan Kristoffersson and team-mate Ole Christian Veiby sewed up all bar one of the six victories between them – only missing out in the Lousada curtain-raising contest in Portugal.

“For us, 2028 is the key,” the 66-year-old told Swedish newspaper, Nya Wermlands-Tidningen. “There are new regulations coming that year, and we are closely following their development, how they might look and what opportunities they might present.
“In order to move forward, I believe we must make ourselves more attractive to the wider automotive industry. So far, we have succeeded in achieving a great deal with very little. We have worked well, but we can only take the next step with sizeable support. At present, we don’t have any hidden aces tucked up our sleeve, but we are working hard.”
Indeed, despite being in the throes of the off-season right now, behind closed doors, KMS’ loyal crew is far from idle.
“We’ve tried to make sure there is work for everybody,” Kristoffersson explained. “We have sold some cars and are building a new one – demand is quite strong – and we have some pretty big commercial projects in the pipeline. If they are successful, that will give us the financial wherewithal to return to racing.”
