It was a special week in Portugal for the Hansen team, not just because of the podium for Timmy, but for the reception Kenneth and Susann got from the local Lousada fans. We caught up with Kenneth to reflect on the dawn of a new era for World RX, and look ahead to the next round in Sweden in two weeks’ time…

As you walked around the packed-out paddock in Lousada, there was a particular energy around the Hansen garage. Fans were lining up to get selfies and autographs not only from Kevin and Timmy, these were oldschool rallycross fans, they wanted to see Kenneth and Susann as well!

“When we came there many years ago, it was for the European Championship, and back then to travel to Lousada from Sweden for us was a huge trip!” remembers Kenneth. “Back then it was really the first time four-wheeled motor sport had come to this area, before it was all motocross and bikes, but it was amazing to see how the spectators around there for the first event in 2025 remembered this start of rallycross and motor sport in Lousada. They hadn’t forgotten and they were so pleased that we were back again, we had a big thank you for coming back.

“We really didn’t expect that at all – we thought perhaps that some people would remember, but not so many, so it was great! The history can also help to grow the championship today, so it’s important to keep the history alive to grow the future.”

So, what was the verdict from of the fans? Did the first round of 2025 live up to their high standards? Hansen Sr certainly thinks so…

“The atmosphere was just incredible,” continued Kenneth. “There was so much positivity. It’s fair to say that in recent years we have had some negative comments, be it about electric or other things, but this time everything was just positive. I think the racing was great, there were good fights in front of a good audience, with a lot of people watching. As a team, we got really good vibes from the first race of the season.”

Next up on the 2025 FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar it’s Sweden at the start of July. Höljes, like Lousada, is a classic RX venue, and we can expect more of the same positivity when action gets underway at the start of July.

“We are happy to come back to our home round in Höljes with a new era of rallycross,” adds Kenneth. “We want to bring all those good vibes, the energy and the big crowds, all to Höljes, which is another fantastic and historic place for rallycross.

“I think the people there will also see it as something of a restart for them there. With this balance we can have good races and put on a good show. What I can see with the organisation, with the concerts and entertainment there has been a lot of effort from the locals and they will make it a really great weekend for the spectators.

And what about the weather? It was pretty sweet in Portugal…

Hopefully we can have some sunshine too, it’s not always the case in Sweden!”
