Competitors in the FIA World Rallycross Championship and FIA European Rallycross Championship will face a brand-new challenge this weekend (23-24 August), as Finland’s KymiRing joins the schedule for the first time.

World RX 2

The multi-purpose motorsport venue – located not far from fellow Rallycross track Kouvola, which welcomed World RX in both 2014 and 2020 – will play host to round four of the 2025 World RX, Euro RX1 and Euro RX3 campaigns. With the entry list now confirmed, the field is set to deliver thrilling action on the brand-new Finnish circuit.

Adding to the excitement, the FIA has announced it will be combining the World RX and Euro RX1 grids for the first time this season. Instead of running separate Qualifying heats for each category, both championships will share the same heats– meaning World RX and Euro RX1 entrants will line up together on the grid, increasing the incredible spectacle and door-to-door action that rallycross is famous for. Importantly, whilst World RX and Euro RX1 cars will compete head-to-head on track, results will still be scored separately within their respective classes.

In the top tier, Johan Kristoffersson will be eager to continue his winning ways as he chases an extraordinary eighth career crown at the international pinnacle of the dual-surface discipline, while his rivals – led by flying Finn Niclas Grönholm, a popular winner at Kouvola five years ago – bid to turn the tables.

Both, however, would do well to watch out for another home hero in the shape of Juha Rytkönen in his sustainably-fuelled, PGRX-run Hyundai i20. The Suonenjoki native stunned with a second-place finish – behind Kristoffersson but ahead of Grönholm – on his World RX debut at Kouvola in 2020 and, then went one better to defeat the seven-time world champion in a straight fight to record his maiden top-flight victory in last season’s Turkish finale.

A 12-strong field will head into battle in Euro RX1, where Yury Belevskiy, Mika Liimatainen and Damian Litwinowicz are locked in a tense three-way tussle for the title. Liimatainen – one of a quintet of Finns in the category – is sure to receive the lion’s share of fans’ support, while Höljes star Joni Turpeinen rejoins the fray as the talented teenage prodigy seeks to finish the job he started in Sweden last month.

In Euro RX3, João Ribeiro heads to KymiRing aiming to further stamp his authority on proceedings in his quest for a maiden European Championship crown – but with the pursuing pack fired-up to stop him in his tracks, Finnish fireworks look solidly in-store...

All of the exhilarating action weekend-long will be broadcast LIVE and FREE on the World RX YouTube channel.
