Tommy Rustad has confirmed he will revert to a Volkswagen Polo Supercar to compete in selected rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship this season as part of the HTB – Marklund Racing team, including his home World RX of Norway event.

Rustad and HTB Racing won the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar in 2015, driving a Marklund Motorsport Polo. They have re-joined the successful Swedish team with a plan to compete in at least the British round of World RX at Silverstone, part of the Speedmachine Festival (May 25-27) and his local event in Hell (June 8-10)

The 49-year old has competed in selected World RX outings in recent years, but has predominantly focused on Euro RX campaigns. He raced an Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 for the last two years and won the 2016 season finale at Riga in Latvia.

"As the Norwegian World RX round at Lanke isn’t included in the European Championship calendar for this year, we have decided that we will race in selected World Championship rounds,” said former World Touring Car Championship driver Rustad. “We don’t have the budget to race in a full World RX season. So far, we’re planning to race at Silverstone in England and at Lanke (Hell) in Norway.”

Marklund Motorsport announced recently that reigning Euro RX Champion Anton Marklund will also race in the British and Norwegian rounds of World RX this season. Rustad will race Marklund’s Euro RX title winning Polo from last year.
