The 2017 FIA World Rallycross Champion, Johan Kristoffersson, had his title success celebrated in his home town of Arvika in Sweden on Wednesday evening, where on a stage in the town’s square a number of rally and rallycross drivers past and present joined in the celebrations, in front of a large crowd.

Kristofferson’s father Tommy and another of Arvika’s rallycross legends, Per Eklund began the evening with nostalgic memories of the sport and of a young Kristoffersson. “Johan fell asleep on my knees on many evenings," Eklund recalled, despite a former fierce rivalry between himself and Tommy Kristofferson’s team. “That Johan won the title is one thing, but that he took seven wins, it was something extra,” he continued.

Kristofferson’s PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team mate Petter Solberg and PSRX team principal Pernilla Solberg both attended. “It was great fun to see how two really good drivers have lifted each other this year,” said Pernilla Solberg, while Tommy Kristoffersson highlighted how much Petter Solberg had helped his son on his way to a first World title. "It was really fun that that so many people came today,” said Johan Krisrtoffersson. "Both me and Peter have a winning mentality, who want to give 100%. Or 110%, as Petter says, but he is counting in Norwegian…”

The evening was concluded with a series of awards, where the town’s motor club, MK Team Westom, announced a new fund, the ‘Johan Kristoffersson Youth Fund’ to assist the next generation of stars from the town. Having won an award from city, Kristoffersson donated his winnings into the fund. "It will be fun to help young potential,” said the World RX Champion. “And now I received 10,000 kronor from the city, I can put that money directly into the fund, so we are already at 20,000.”

Kristoffersson will receive the FIA World Championship winning trophy at the FIA Awards Gala in Paris next month.
