Sweden’s Johan Kristoffersson set the quickest time in Q1 at Neste World RX of Latvia, round 10 of the FIA World Rallycross Championship prestented by Monster Energy, after reigning Champion Mattias Ekstrom set the quickest time in Free Practice this morning.

Kristoffersson made the best start in Q1 race three and led Kevin Hansen to the finish. The World RX Championship leader’s PSRX Volkswagen Sweden team mate, Petter Solberg, completed a similar performance in race four and was second quickest, winning his race in front of Peugeot-Hansen’s Timmy Hansen. Ekstrom also won his race and was fourth and Timmy Hansen was fifth.

Finland’s Topi Heikkinen won race one in front of Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss and Switzerland’s Nico Mueller in a one-two-three for the EKS team. The biggest drama of the Q1 session was in race two, when Germany’s Timo Scheider’s Ford Fiesta caught fire on the third lap. He made it to the finish line before jumping out of the car, which was extinguished by marshals. The MJP Racing Team Austria team is working hard to try and repair the car ahead of Q2 this afternoon.

In the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Supercar, Sweden’s Anton Marklund set the quickest time in Q1 ahead of Norway’s Thomas Bryntesson and Sweden’s Robin Larsson.
