Latvia’s Janis Baumanis enters his home round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Riga this weekend nearing the end of his second full season in World RX Supercar, and feels more prepared for racing in front of his home fans than in 2016.

“I have at least 11 races more in Supercar than last year, which is quite a big step forward. I have been quite pleased with the last three races for me (in Sweden, Canada and France), but in the first races we had some bad luck and also maybe some different circumstances that happened to us, but still I would say it has been quite a good season for us,” said Baumanis.

The Latvian added: “I feel much more confident than last year before this race and of course there is big pressure from all the spectators, fans and supporters, but still I am looking forward to enjoying the race and doing everything the best I can do in the four qualification runs and then let’s see what happens.”

The Team STARD driver hasn’t driven his World RX Supercar on the Bikernieki circuit in 2017, but has driven a similar car in testing. I have driven with a Ford Fiesta R5 car on this track, it’s almost the same as my rallycross car only with half the horsepower and a little bit different suspension and handling. I did quite a lot of laps just to be sure that I know the track. It is very challenging, it will ask a lot from the drivers and also from the cars, so you have to be really precise to get a good setup and you can push for all four or six laps in the places where you need to push.”

The build up to his home event has been busy for Baumanis, but he’s looking forward to getting on track tomorrow morning. “For a few days it’s been like you don’t even time to think about the race day, then some days when you have a little more free-time you are maybe thinking too much and then some stress comes. But, I cannot wait for Saturday morning when we can finally get into the car. The main thing is to have a good feeling, good fun and get a good result for the spectators to have a good show.”
