FIA World Rallycross Championship 2017 race winners Mattias Ekstrom and Johan Kristoffersson both achieved success on their time away from the World RX paddock last weekend.

World RX points leader Ekstrom headed to the Lausitzring in Germany to compete in the second weekend of the DTM Championship and scored his first podium of the year in the series with an impressive drive from eighth on the grid to second at the finish on Sunday, after making a pit stop on the first lap of the race. “With a good setup, I’ve always been able to take it easy on the tires,” said Ekstrom. “And today we had a good setup. Starting from eighth position meant we had to show some willingness to take risks. This tactic worked out tremendously.”

In Finland, Mettet RX winner Kristoffersson swapped his Volkswagen Polo GTI Supercar for a Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR touring car and won all three races in the second round of the Swedish Touring Championship (STCC) at the Alastaro Circuit. “Historically, that is the best weekend we have ever had,” said Kristoffersson Motorsport team principal Tommy Kristoffersson, Johan’s father, who is spotter for his son in World RX. “The whole team did an outstanding job and showed the great potential it has for the rest of the season.”

Ekstrom, Kristoffersson and the rest of the World RX field head to Lydden Hill in the UK this week for the fifth round of World RX.
