The second round for both the FIA European Rallycross Championship for Super1600 and the FIA European Rallycross Championship for TouringCar took place at round four of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Mettet in Belgium last weekend, where Lithuania’s Kasparas Navickas and Lars-Oivind Enerberg claimed victories.

The Super1600 category was dominated by Latvia’s Artis Baumanis until the final laps of the final. Baumanis was top qualifier in the Intermediate Classification and won semi-final one to start on pole positon for the final. He led the race until he crashed into the tyre barrier on the outside of the first corner on lap four, and then rolled his Skoda Fabia in the joker lap section on the same lap. Estonia’s Janno Ligur took the lead, but the race was stopped and as the Fabia driver hadn’t taken his joker lap, the notional joker time was added, handing victory to Navickas. Finland’s Jussi-Petteri Leppihalme survived contact with Baumanis after his first crash to finish third – his first podium of the year. Russia’s Timur Shigaboutdinov was fourth. Round one winner Ulrik Linnemann retired on lap three with mechanical problems and dropped to second in the points behind Navickas.

In the TouringCar category for rear-wheel drive cars, Norway’s Lars-Oivind Enerberg won the final by just 0.194s from compatriot Anders-Nymoen Braten. Enerberg led the race from the front but an early joker lap gave Braten the opportunity to hunt the leader down and just lost out on victory in a race to the finish line. Round one winner Philip Gehrman was third and shares the points lead with Enerberg. Norway’s Steinar Stokke was fourth in his Mazda RX8 and local Belgian and Dutch drivers Steve Volders and Mandy Kasse finished fifth and sixth respectively.
