Norway’s Petter Solberg got his weekend at Mettet in Belgium off to the perfect start this afternoon for round four of the FIA World Rallycross Championship.

The Volkswagen RX Sweden driver was quickest in the first Free Practice session of the weekend, only fractions of a second ahead of Championship leader Mattias Ekstrom and Hockenheim RX podium finisher Timmy Hansen. Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov was fourth for Team STARD and Sweden’s Kevin Eriksson was fifth, even with a small issue on his MJP Racing Team Austria Ford Fiesta. “The pace was good. After the first run I was third and fifth in the end so we can be happy with that. We had some small problems with the transmission and I had a strange vibration in the car so I was a bit scared going into the first corner, so I think I can find some time just from me,” said Eriksson. “We have some stuff to work on for tomorrow.” The top 12 drivers were covered by less than a second, Belgian hero Francois Duval getting accustomed to the Albatec Racing Peugeot 208 Supercar with 13th time.

Britain’s Dan Rooke was fastest in the first Free Practice session of the year in the RX2 International Series.
