Norway's Petter Solberg set the fastest time in Q3 at the second round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at the Montalegre circuit in Portugal, to move to top position in the Intermediate Classification, as Johan Kristoffersson won the race but like Bakkerud on Saturday didn’t take his joker lap.

The resulting 30 second penalty put Kristoffersson last of the drivers to set a time, but he remains second overall. Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom climbed to third after winning his race and Timur Timerzyanov moved to fourth with to fifth fastest time in Q3.

For the second qualifying session in a row Peugeot-Hansen's Timmy Hansen and EKS's Topi Heikkinen battled on track, Hansen again finishing ahead of the Finn. France’s Sebastien Loeb and Sweden’s Kevin Eriksson had been third and fourth after Q2 but Eriksson spun in Q3 on lap two before being collected by Loeb. Both drivers got going, Loeb 19th fastest and now ninth overall, as Eriksson retired but is still 10th.

Ahead of Q4, Latvia’s Janis Baumanis, Sweden’s Kevin Hansen, Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss, Finland’s Niclas Gronholm and Germany’s Timo Scheider are also in semi-final qualifying positions. American’s Ken Block and Finland’s Topi Heikkinen are 13th and 14th, ready to battle for a top 12 position in the Intermediate Classification in Q4. Bakkerud won the first race of Q3, fighting back from troubles yesterday and was sixth fastest, but is unlikely to make it into the semi-finals.
