Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom was the fastest driver in Q3 at the first round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship in Barcelona, making up for being slowed by racing in wet weather conditions on Saturday afternoon in Q2.

The result moves Ekstrom up to second in the Intermediate Classification, behind Germany’s Timo Scheider, who continued his strong form from day one to win his race in Q3 and set the second fastest time, moving to the top of the table.

Thanks to extensive overnight work from the Hoonigan Racing Division team to repair his Ford Focus RS RX, Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud set the third fastest time in Q3 to move back into the semi-final positions in the Intermediate Classification, in ninth, with his team mate, America’s Ken Block tenth.

Petter Solberg also moved up the order to sixth in the Intermediate Classification by winning his race and setting fourth fastest time, with Sweden’s Timmy Hansen and Johan Kristoffersson, Britain’s Guy Wilks, Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov, Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss and Finland’s Topi Heikkinen completing Q3 in the top ten. All of those drivers are in a semi-final qualifying position with Q4 to run later this morning in Barcelona.

MJP Racing Team Austria’s Kevin Eriksson, STARD’s Janis Baumanis and Peugeot-Hansen’s Sebastien Loeb are currently outside the top twelve.
