Latvia’s Janis Baumanis enters his home round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship this weekend on the back of the best-ever result for the World RX Team Austria squad.

Two weeks ago in Barcelona, Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov scored the first podium finish for the Austrian team, while Baumanis made the final for the first time this season and finished fourth. “I’m really happy about the semi-final in Barcelona, I didn’t make any mistakes and the car was almost perfect,” said Baumanis. “It was a brilliant result for Team Austria to have both cars in the final for the first time in its history, and we have high hopes for this race.”

Baumanis has already tested on the new Riga World RX circuit, but thinks he will have to start afresh driving his Ford Fiesta Supercar this weekend. “I have done about 30 laps here and I know that other guys have been testing here too,” he said. “My test was with a totally different car, so I will start practice tomorrow with a totally fresh mind. Everything is different and it’s easier for me just to clear my mind and step-by-step just go forward. I know the track is really difficult and there are a lot of places where you need to attack a lot, but you also have to think for the jumps and chicanes, so it will be really good.”

The draw for Q1 has been made in Latvia, Baumanis will start his Q1 race at home fifth on the grid. See the full Q1 draw results here.
