The entry list for the opening round of the FIA World Rallycross Championship at Montalegre in Portugal (15-17 April) has been revealed by the FIA. Twenty-three Supercars will take part, including the seven permanent teams and three permanent individual drivers.

Reigning World RX drivers’ and teams’ champions – Petter Solberg and Team Peugeot-Hansen – lead the field at the first round of the season, where nine-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb will make his World RX debut driving for the Peugeot-Hansen squad, alongside 2015 runner-up Timmy Hansen. Double World RX event winner Davy Jeanney will race a Peugeot 208 for the Peugeot Hansen Academy, partnered by reigning RX Lites Cup champion Kevin Hansen. 

Volkswagen RX Sweden drivers Johan Kristoffersson and Anton Marklund will compete in a pair of new Volkswagen Polos, while two-time DTM champion Mattias Ekstrom and Finland’s Topi Heikkinen will race together for the first time in the EKS team. World RX Team Austria has signed Latvia’s Janis Baumanis and Russia’s Timur Timerzyanov for 2016, the pair will be joined in the squad in Portugal by Max Pucher in a third Ford Fiesta. America’s Ken Block and Norway’s Andreas Bakkerud will race a pair of brand new Ford Focus RS RX Supercars for the new Ford Performance supported Hoonigan Racing Division team, while the Olsbergs MSE squad will field a pair of Ford Fiestas for full-time newcomers Kevin Eriksson and Niclas Gronholm. Munnich Motorsport will debut its brand new Seat Ibiza Supercars in Montalegre, in the hands of Latvia’s Reinis Nitiss and Germany’s Rene Munnich. Winner of the final World RX round of 2015, Robin Larsson, will return in his privately run Audi A1, while Liam Doran will make his first appearance for the JRM team in a Mini RX. France’s Jean Baptiste Duborug will race the new DA Racing Citroen DS3 for the first time, Portugal’s Joaquim Santos will race a Ford Focus and Poland’s Bohdan Ludwiczak returns to rallycross with a Mitsubishi Lancer.

World RX will be supported at the mountainous circuit of Montalegre by the FIA European Rallycross Super1600 Championship, which boasts a record entry of 33 cars at the Portuguese event. Fourteen nationalities will be represented by drivers in the front-wheel drive category, where a new champion will be crowned in 2016. Ulrik Linnemann returns with the Peugeot 208 in which he won three events last year, while Artis Baumanis replaces brother Janis Baumanis in the Set Promotion team. Egor Sanin will race in a unique Lada Kalina run by TT Motorsport.
