Ireland’s Ollie O’Donovan will compete in the 2016 FIA European Rallycross Championship, driving a Ford Fiesta Supercar for the second year in succession.

O’Donovan debuted his Fiesta at the opening round of Euro RX at Mettet in Belgium last year, and went on to twice make the final in Norway and Barcelona - the first Irish driver ever to do so. “Last year was very much a learning year in Europe for us. The tracks were new, the car was new to us and I haven’t spent that much time in a car for a few years. We want to improve this season, but I know the competition is going to be even harder than it was last year,” said O’Donovan, who also had a spectacular accident at the final Euro RX round in Italy last year.

The former British champion has his sights set on a podium finish this season. “Knowledge of some of the circuits will certainly help us to be quicker out of the box. I’ve always wanted to race at Holjes in Sweden so that will be fantastic, and the new event in Latvia looks like it will be interesting too. To get into the finals is the goal again, and I’d really like to be on the podium at a European event this season.”

O’Donovan’s return to Euro RX means he will join fellow Irishman Derek Tohill on the grid in 2016. Double European TouringCar champion Tohill announced late last year that he will race an Olsbergs MSE built Ford Fiesta Supercar in Euro RX this season.
