Sweden’s Anton Marklund featured in the semi-finals in Norway and France, the previous two rounds of the FIA World Rallycross Championship. Feeling increasingly comfortable in the EKS Audi S1, Marklund is targeting a podium this weekend in Barcelona.

“I definitely hope for another semi-final this weekend. That should be a bit easier here than it was in France, because the cars are racing in World and European here so there are less World car fighting for the semi-finals. I really hope I can get to at least the first two rows in the semis - then I think I have a good opportunity to get into the final. I’m still waiting for my first podium finish with EKS and I would really like it to be here in Barcelona,” said Marklund.

World RX races on a brand new circuit at the Barcelona-Catalunya Formula One venue, and Marklund likes the new track. “The tarmac is super wide, the first and second corners are really fast which is different to usual. There is space for everybody; I think there will be a lot of guys side-by-side from the start until the third corner. I really like the track, it has fast parts and really technical parts and a good jump, which is great for both the spectators and drivers.”

The draw for the first heat takes place this afternoon, where Marklund hopes to get into a heat one race with fast drivers. “For sure it’s good to be in a first race with the fast guys that you know aren’t going to make a crazy move on you. I’d like to have a first heat with no drivers who are super aggressive, because the first day in rallycross is all about surviving and putting yourself in a good position for day two. That’s the plan.”
